preliminary results

Our project is growing from an “newborn” to concrete forms. Pre-production is not yet finished, but by now we are on our way to begin the concrete work.

But what was going on until now? You haven’t heard much…?

Using a german phrase “the devil is sticking in the details”. In a community of over a hundred people we have confronted ourselves with the task to develop a story, form a script of it, develop a visual style and put it all into practice. Dray concept art, discuss it, “polish” the story, draw storyboards…

and all that on a strictly voluntary basis! In the beginning we thought that this would be impossible.

After we had decided to make the impossible come real, we had to learn (and still have to) how the community approach can be realized in such a great creative project, if at all.

Something like this has not been seen yet!

Of course there were dry spells, especially when there were things to do which nobody liked to… but by now we can say: it works! So we are further than we dared to hope at the beginning!

Ok, what comes next?

We are working on the characters. We are developing, modelling, textiring, rigging (making animatable) the characters. The next step is ti perform animation tests. We have practiced animation in several workshops, and now we are going to realize the learned things.

As a pilot project, we have chosen one particular scene which we will film, cut, produce completely. So we can test the entire production process without deadlines, and at the end of it there will be a teaser.

Parallel to the character development, we are modelling the scene backdrop. The task is to build a whole street of houses – 30 buildings, of which four are ready and six are in production.

In a proper science fiction movie there are of course spacecraft. One of them is nearly finished, two others are in development. Maybe they will be visible in the teaser!

ok, now… let us make a cup of coffee, start Blender and go on.

Browser language recognition

We had a bug in the browser language recognition. For this reason only persons who had set their browser’s language to DE or EN were able to visit our site. To everybody else a white page was shown. This code issue has now been resolved.

1st contest: The winner is elected!

User Hum-bee has won the first concept art contest.
He developed an outstandingly ingenious conceptual design of a launch base for orbiters. With about 60% of the votes, he could clearly decide the election.

Congratulations!

The base is divided into several sections. On the left there is the launching area from which the orbiters take off vertically into the sky. On the right there are the generously proportioned landing areas, in the basement the workshops and – under the workshops – the fuel tanks are situated. For the control rooms there is a tower above the takeoff / landing areas.

Because of the deadline, hum-bee was not yet able to colorize his concept drawings. Maybe he will make up for this detail.

2008!

It happend a few minutes ago, another year has gone. Many good and a few bad events are now finally history.

Hopefully, you had a wonderful start into the new year with your friends and families.

We wish all of you a happy new year 2008 and sincere thanks are given to all team-members and visitors of our site for their support.

You are great!

As a matter of course, we are continuing our work on the movie. Await first pictures this spring.

We will held a drawing-competition for all team-members early this year. The winning picture will be presented in our gallery.

Film script published!

It’s done – our scriptwriter team has completed the final version of the script.

Now, accurate visual representations of the places and charaters described in the script will be made, and later will be composed to a storyboard. Because this step is a very time consuming piece of work, we are not able to say when this very creative phase will be completed.

The script is made for a movie of about 15 minutes’ length, and until the completion of the production, it will be kept under lock and key. However, after completion it will be accessible to the public!

Though a release date can not yet be given, one should not anticipate the movie’s completion before the end of 2008 / beginning of 2009. But you can already begin looking forward to a very exciting short movie and an outsanding, gripping story!

To reduce your waiting time, our PR management has resolved to do quite a few things. Among others, we are planning to inform interested persons about what happens “behind the scenes” and to let them passively take part in the project’s development. Together with you, we may be looking forward to some great activities…

Core team established

The core team is needed if certain departments or fields (Concept-Art, 3D, Sound, etc..) request quick decisions or require more detailed planning. The members of the core team form a little group of persons who are responsible for the movie, who try to keep the project going and who try to coordinate all the other members. At the same time they are of course the contact persons number one regarding all issues, questions and problems in the particular fields of their responsibility.

For now thanks a lot to all the many persons who have already contributed their ideas and their creative power to the first phase of our movie! We are on the right way! Let’s carry on!
