Hello, dear forum and blog users!

Dezember 30th, 2009 von Mayqel

Kerze

The time has come once more. Christmas moves nearer now. A lot still must be completed this year, also this blog. It is time again! Blog time!!

In the last months we showed only very few things here. This has its reasons. Not everyone has access to the system, and we, the admins, are in the project, as well as privately, more often working at full capacity than someone might think. But now the cold winter time is coming, and everybody can once again dedicate themselves, in a warm room, more to their passionate hobby: Blendering …I must still smile quietly about this word.

Well well, what do we have for you? First of all, some very good pictures, which come directly from our members, and which are not composited or refined by us in any way. This indicates you: Everyone is able to learn Blender.… ok, a little graphic flair and imaginatiive capability should be helpful. But we are a community, a community which enjoys being direct and also also enjoys helping beginners… may the questions be banal, and the possibly to read it in each Wiki … we help gladly.

A very pleasing thing (and not only the core team does observe this): The users are learning fast. This is reflected in the quality of the meshes, textures and at least in the final result of the delivered work. This speaks clearly for our Community. Everyone can do, if he wants…

There are not only the complex models, which ensure for attention and astonishment, but also the seemingly unimportant ones. Exactly these are the ones which bring the scene to life. Without hills of rubbish, plants, vehicles and much more a scene would not be complete. So here from me, to all the users who worked on these objects, a big congratulation. The diligence of these members is enormous and it is beautiful to see how they push themselves to master performances. We are proud to have such people with us.

In order to give this blog a little more life, we will publish some pictures, concepts or even animations during the winter months. These are already available in the forum and should now finally shown to the public. Long live the blog!

Many dear greetings

It continues, anyway…

Mai 21st, 2009 von Mayqel

Hello friends of the blend.polis|movie.project,

maybe you have noticed that recently not so many new things were noticeable in the blend.polis|movie.project. The reasons are quite simple: there have been several changes to the personal situation of members. Some of the core team members had to take a break because they did not have enough time left, others were on travel, and besides that, there were new jobs, family affairs, simply the complete palette of what life can bring you.

Anyway, the project is alive, and we also have some news for you. The most important is that we have two new core team members. FBuerger2000 and Walross (Walrus). Furthermore, the modelling of our first scene is nearly completed, and we can start animating soon. And… we are sure the following scenes will be complete in a much shorter time.

And last, but not least a new picture

Many greetings and all the best, your blend.polis|movie.project team

open project – open end?

Februar 25th, 2009 von Mayqel

A project, I once learned, is defined – among others – by a fixed deadline. For us a question has arisen some time ago: What about an open, creative project?

Each member has signed up voluntarily, contributes to the project voluntarily and takes his/her time for the project, also voluntarilý. But what if the time is not available? When other things are more improtant, or when a member leaves the project just before the completionof his/her contribution?

We have to reckon and to deal with this. But how?

This is not only a prolem, but also a challenge. an it is part of the project’s concept. To meet the challenge is a learning process. We are working on it every day: to deal with new situations and constellations, to motivate ourselves and the other members, to keep on.

With all these challenges, the project has come further than we believed at the beginning, and the confidence that it will succed seems no more irreal. However,  two virtues are still necessary: patience and staying power.

We promise that we will be virtuous in these two aspects,

The same procedure as last year?

Dezember 31st, 2008 von Mayqel

It is hard to believe how fast a year passes… well, that’s nothing new. One year ago, we just began drawing the first few concept art images. Since then, over 10,000 new forum posts and over 750 threads have been written, and a total of about 2,000 pictures have been posted.

Now, at the end of the year, the time has come to  make New Year’s resolutions. In other words: to make something out of the 10,000 posts. That’s easily said… So which are our goals? What are we planning to do in 2009?

The first goal ist the completion of scene 18, i.e. the actual beginning of the production. When the scene is finished, we will produce a demo and/or teaser for you. The following scenes will be complete a lot faster than the first one, which is quite complex. At the end of the year – if everything goes well – we will have finished a good deal of the production.

Of course, we will keep you informed – and as always, we are looking forward to getting comments from you.

Best greetings and a happy new year, your blend.polis|movie.project team

First animation contest: the winner animation

Oktober 26th, 2008 von Mayqel

Today we have a little candy for you: the winning animation of our first animation contest!

The topic is: a landing spacecraft, i.e. the landing of a ground to air-space transport vehicle on a transport base.

To view the video in HD, visit us at Vimeo!

Learn from each other

Our project has members of very different skill levels in different areas of knowledge, and one goal is to learn from each other. For this reason, we arrange workshops. The contest took place in the context of such a workshop.

As the prize, we rendered the animation and produced some sound for it. So we could test the workflow from the model to the complete film.

The 3D models (spacecraft, trucks etc.) are originals which will be seen in the movie.

We wish you a lot of fun viewing and hope you like it.

Best wishes,
your

New Pictures!

Oktober 1st, 2008 von Mayqel

News from the gallery! The first pictures of the movie’s original models and of the scene are there!

The scene they are from plays in the future, which is hardly recognizable, though – every kind of progress has been hindered by the war. Only military technology blossomed for several decades, even space based weapons were developed.

But all this was long ago. The city – like every city onearth – has been destroyed, built up and destroyed again for several times… now it has become a ghost town. The last few left people are fleeing. But the war is not over.

The sun is shining cats and dogs…

Juli 22nd, 2008 von ddiethelm

sonnen_smile.jpg It is summer. That means: it’s either too hot or too wet, and everybody is talking about the weather… or travelling to southern countries… where it’s more often too hot and less often too wet. For our project this means: A lot of time to do background work. A lot of time to work on the realization of the movie’s first scene.

The main characters’ “rigs”, i.e. their “skeletons” for the animations, are in a beta state and will be adapted to the characters soon. Then the order sounds like: test, test, test… this will be one of the main tasks for the coming weeks. Furthermore, we will test the integration of characters and animated items into the scene and develop a workflow for these tasks.

A lot of work, but nothing to see for you? By no means! Soon we will present images about the development of our scene – you may look forward to it!

Best regards, your blend.polis|movie.project team!
